    Congratulations to Dragons Gisselle Cortez and Estevan Cortez  whose app was chosen as the winner of the 2019 Congressional App Challenge!  California Rep. Nanette Barragan has named our two students as the winners in California’s 44th district. Their submitted app is titled "Integer Racers" and allows for students to practice their skills with integer expressions.  ISLC is proud of you Gisselle and Estevan!  A BIG thank you to their teacher, Ms. Leuterio, for providing them with this opportunity and the support to make it a reality!  More details can be found here:

    Linda Marquez High School in Huntington Park is hosting a College and Career Expo tomorrow Saturday, February 22nd from 10-2pm.  All grade levels and families are encouraged to attend. There will be a College/Career Fair , presentations on Financial Aid, College 101 and Surviving College).  Financial aid application assistance will be provided if you’re still struggling with completing your FAFSA. See the flyer attached to your Schoology message from last week.  


    The next attendance celebration will be on March 18th and 19th.  Make sure that you come to school every day and on time to be able to participate in this activity.  Go Dragons. 




    Do you need to dress professionally for a presentation, interview, or internship?  Visit the college and career center in room 118 at least one day prior to check out an outfit from the “Professional Development Closet” sponsored by a generous donation by 2017 ISLC alumni Melodie Cuevas.  There are various sizes, styles, and colors available for males and females.     Please consider donating toys either new or used as well as notebooks, paper, pencils, erasers, rulers, highlighters, glue, and crayons for the Capstone Project Bringing Hope for an orphanage in Tijuana.  Donations are being collected in Room 218 until next Friday Feb 28. 


    Save the date: This year’s Genocide Walk will be April 26.  More details to follow.


    If you are looking for ways to serve your community and receive community service hours, Frida & Wendy will be making pb & j sandwiches for the homeless on 02/22/2020, & hosting an event on 02/23/2020 with Alleviate Skid Row.  Food & snacks will be provided for both dates. Remember to text @frendy to 81010 for further information.


    11th graders

    Your school day SAT will take place here at ISLC on March 4th.  Most students take the SAT more than once! Apply for an opportunity to receive FREE official SAT practice from UCLA on Saturdays in May and June.  See the flyer attached to the Schoology message or apply at



    Currently, there are only four seniors remaining to complete an application for financial aid.  If you need support, see your counselor or Ms. Kawamoto in Room 118. The deadline to qualify for a Cal Grant is March 2nd, so get your FAFSA/DREAM ACT completed ASAP.

    The next senior parent meeting is scheduled for March 5th at 3:30-4:30 at the MS MPR.  All seniors and families are encouraged to attend. Information and progress reports will be presented on community service, internship, senior showcase digital portfolio. attendance, and senior activities.  Two workshops offered will be offered on the community college LA Promise and the next steps after four-year college acceptance. Please return the bottom half of the parent letter sent home ASAP to the main office.  

    Congratulations to the 38 seniors who have passed Part 1 and Part 2 of the senior showcase digital portfolio!  Way to go on your way to walking the stage on June 11th! Your next deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 25th. This will be your last chance to submit passing Part 2 and second chance for Part 3.  See your chairperson or page 10 of your packet for details. 


    If you plan to purchase both the Prom ticket and Yearbook at a package rate, payment is due on Friday, February 21. Mr. Atienza will accept payments at the Student Store after school from 2:50 to 3:30 from Wednesday - Friday both for this week and the next. If you do not make the payment by the due date, you will have to purchase the items individually at a higher price. Remember, all payments are non-refundable.

    Grad Nite is Friday, June 12th at Disneyland/California Adventure from 10 am to 3 am.  Cost is $200, including the park hopper and transportation. Season pass will not be honored for that day since Grad Nite is a private event for Seniors.  The total payment is due April 2nd. Space is limited so purchase your tickets now. You can make your payments in Room 218 during lunch.
